Tournament Critiques

Turlock 63 teams, 4/14-15. Approximately 4 games played on each field before being completely rained out.    Prior to rain out one   field had a water pipe break flooding the infield, TD improvised by having teams play on    the grass. New team complained about   being in too high of bracket for their first tournament, TD refunded $.    Complaint received for using too hot of ball when allowing   the Ultra ll to be used.

Concord 29 teams, 4/21-22. Complaint received about using too hard of ball & allowing the Miken    Ultra ll.

Vacaville- Folsom-Yuba City 34 teams, 4/28-29. Complaints received of using bad balls.

Hayward 34 teams, 5/5-6. Complaints of ball being too soft, umpires not familiar with senior rules, lack of            field maintenance and the older fields should not be used. Team violated rule 27.

Oroville 17 teams, 5/5-6. OK

Yuba City-Vacaville 40 teams, 5/19-20. Complaint received of misconduct by a player towards an umpire and    being ejected from   tournament.

Turlock 26 teams, 5/19-20. OK except complaints of restrooms too far away for 70+. 3 teams violated rule 27.

Palo Alto 9 teams, 5/26-27. Small tournament, all participants got a goody bag and long sleeve t-  shirt and    awards given for 1st   & 2nd place. Complaint about some umpires weak on senior rules.

Yuba City, 5/26-27, cancelled for lack of teams.

Chico 14 teams, 6/9-10. OK

Brentwood 36 teams, 6/16-17. Complaints of one umpire not very good, of too many XL size shirts for older teams, no snack bar or water and muddy infield / outfield on some fields. TD learned the morning of the tournament that the snack bar would not be   open and the excess water on the fields was due to negligence by the grounds crew. Distance schedule modified to accommodate board    members attending meeting.

Penn Valley 18 teams, 6/16-17.Conflicting complaints of ball not good in afternoon heat, non-official umpires       used and poor fields.

Complaints come in regarding TD not following the rankings in making the brackets. It should be known that the brackets are approved by the region rep in that area and exceptions are made. Example, when there is a 15 year difference if rankings followed. Region reps attempt to keep from having even a 10 year difference but because of the few teams that enter into some tournaments it can’t be helped. Also a reminder for those who complain about AAA playing Major teams, we don’t have such classifications.

Rankings – Now have 103 teams registered. Some adjustments made.

Web Site – Looking good with over 35,000 hits since April 13th.

NCSSA Championship Tournament – Invitational letters being sent out to all managers of record.

New Business

Disciplinary action was taken against the following player and teams.

Noel Maldonado was suspended for 45 days and given 2 year probation for his unsportsmanlike conduct at           the Sacramento TPA tournament held on May 19th.

Nor Cal Merchants, ODB and Chubb Ins. violated NCSSA rule27 by not declaring they had more than 2               add-ons at the May 19/20 Turlock tournament. MAC ll also violated rule 27 at the May 5/6 tournament in              Hayward.

New addition to rule 27: Due to a number of the younger teams failing to disclose their add-ons the following rule change has been adopted. Effective immediately, all teams on the left side of the rankings (numbers 1 thru 55) will bring 5 copies of their approved and dated NCSSA roster with any add-ons included to tournaments entered.  Opponents will exchange rosters at home plate before the start of each game.

Discussed the Sacramento Blues dropping out late in the 6/16-17 Penn Valley tournament.

Discussed tournament dates and how they are handled.

Next meeting – July 25th at Carl’s house in Manteca.

Meeting adjourned at 4:30 pm
